چکیده
APPLICATION OF ENZYME-LINKED IMMUNOSORBENT ASSAYS FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF BOVINE BRUCELLOSIS IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL, BRAZIL. The results of an indirect ELISA (I-ELISA) and a competitive ELISA (C-ELISA) for detection of antibody to Brucella abortus in cattle were compared with those of conventional serological tests. The sensitivity of I-ELISA using 230 sera from infected animals was 98.6% and the specificity in 720 sera from brucellosis-free animals was 98.2%. The C-ELISA when tested in 94 positive sera and 91 negative sera was 100% sensitive and specific. The relative sensitivity and specificity of I-ELISA compared to C-ELISA in 582 sera from groups of animals vaccinated with S19 by different routes and doses was respectively 64% and 100%. When comparing five serological tests on sera from vaccinated animals, the specificity was 94% for C-ELISA, 93% for 2-mercaptoethanol (2ME), 88% for Rose Bengal Plate test (RBPT), 84% for Slow Tube Agglutination test (SAT) and 34% for I-ELISA. It can be concluded from this study that the RBPT gave less false positive results than the I-ELISA in vaccinated animals and the C-ELISA is a good confirmatory test with the advantage of distinguishing the antibody response due to vaccination from that resulting from infection with Brucella abortus.

Comparative study of degradation of PP modified with organic pro-degradant subjected to natural and artificial ageing
In abiotic degradation the action of light radiation is one of the most important parameters, because polymers undergo degradation due to the action of light (natural or artificial). The aim of this study was to investigate the degradation rate for samples of polypropylene (PP) modified with an organic pro-degradant submitted to ageing in a natural environment and to accelerated ageing test. Th...
متن کاملIntegrated Membrane Processes (EDR-RO) for Water Reuse in the Petrochemical Industry
The objective of this work was to apply a hybrid process, including electrodialysis reversal (EDR) and reverse osmosis (RO) to the treatment of petrochemical wastewater in order to obtain process water for reuse. A water balance was carried out to defne the main water consumers and the process step that could receive the produced water. Additionally, toxicity assays wer...
متن کاملImpact of silver ions and silver nanoparticles on the plant growth and soil microorganisms
There is a growing consumer market for products that proclaim to decrease microorganism counts to prevent infections. Most of these products are loaded with silver in its ionic or nanoparticle form. Through use or during production, these particles can find their way into the soil and cause an impact in microbial and plant communities. This study aims to evaluate the impact of silver based part...
متن کاملDNA damage in dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells: An in vitro study
The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential use of a DNA comet assay, DNA fragmentation fluorimetric assay and reactive oxygen species levels as potential biomarkers of genome conditions of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) isolated from dog canine teeth. Mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from the dental pulp collected from dog teeth. The results obtained suggest the ideal moment for cl...
متن کاملPlatelet-Rich Fibrin Promotes an Accelerated Healing of Achilles Tendon When Compared to Platelet-Rich Plasma in Rat
BACKGROUND Autologous platelet concentrate has been used to improve the function and regeneration of injured tissues. Tendinopathies are common in clinical practice, although long-term treatment is required. On the basis of lead time, we compared the effect of using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) in repairing rat Achilles tendon. METHODS The effectiveness of usi...
